In May 2021 after ten months of planning and waiting we received the good news that the church was awarded a grant of just under £10,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund. We held a "History Tea and Cake" party at the end of June - to launch the project and will be holding a further event on Sunday 19 September from 4-6pm. Details to follow - or contact the coordinator: firstname.lastname@example.org
The purpose of the funding is to build on the work of previous historians -and explore the "radical, inclusive history" of the church. An obvious example is the pivotal role of the church in South Bank Religion along with the movement for the Ordination of Women and the Gay Christian Movement from the 1970s. There are also many relevant events and people connected to the Ascension since it was made a parish church in 1883.
The Lottery funded project runs until June 2022 - and is structured around three phases: Research , Wider Participation and Training and Interpretation. All of these are dependent on volunteer particpation and we warmly welcome your ideas, suggestions and active involvement.
